Champions 5/8

after years of traveling through various pubs, i finally have a trailer-park beer cozy. the flat light blue thing you see there. howd i get it? let me just say theres nothing funnier than watching scantilly clad miller lite representatives asking educated phd holders which beer they prefer. at one point i was actually worried that there was going to be a problem with the space-time continuum. all that smart and stupid in such close proximity...something felt Biblical about it.

Louisville, KY

take a look at all of the pens that were on my roommates desk. yeah, he brought these to the reading. one person. he'd wake up at 3:30 in the morning and grade papers...prior to a full day of grading papers, mind you. read 1200 ap literature essays in kentucky this week. this is the inordinate stash of pens my roommate 'borbie' brought with him. im not even certain shakespeare used this much ink. no doubt, several ink trees had to die in the rainforest to make this gratuitous scene possible.

Champions 5/9

james and i tried another of the local kentucky fare: the hot brown. toast, turkey, bacon, tomato, alfredo and parmasian. hoomama. good eats. james and i are waiting for our pals to arrive, never knowing that they were actually waiting for us on the other said of the bar. the boddingtons didnt mind the downtime.

Seelbach Hotel 5/8

esquire magazine said this was one of the 25 best bars in america. happened to be three blocks away, so i had to do some reasearch of my own. james and i paid a visit. and aside from the beerbelly republican convention a few paces behind us, the place was a nice departure. the barmaid was friendly and talked me through a fine sample of kentucky's best (or one of them): woodruff resserve. smooth

Champions 5/6

say hey to rosa. if i remember correctly, shes heading to university of alabama, birmingham. many stories had she, though not a fan of the brew. i wont hold it against her because her tales were splendid and friendly, just like the always reliable apa.

Why Teachers Drink

this is an excerpt from one of the essays i had to read. damn kid crossed out most of the page, and, rather than continue on with the paper, squeezed the new writing in between the line and the crossouts...so you think grading is easy? kiss my ass!

Molly Malone's 5/8

down in the barstown road area of kentucky we found several irish pubs, this looking like the most friendly. apparently all you really need to do to get a job here is wear a scoop-necked shirt and no bra--tori spelling cleavage (appreantly they looked past the cold-sore on the upper lip, but who am i to judge)

Bistro 301

rogue ipa. the james gang chilling directly after a read. we asked the server about specials, and she read (more or less) the drink menu to us. no one had the heart to tell her to stop. who knew all literate beer drinkers were so nice? (just dont tell anyone in the hemmingway family)

BBC 5/6.2

allow me to introduced you to mc matt g. urban studies (more or less) phd, and quite the hip hop sourcebook. ive known him for a number of years now, and this is the bloke that introduced me to all the other suckas in these pictures.

BBC 5/6

that would be kiirsten, though im not entirely sure how to spell her name. i think we spent the most of our time discussing grad school days. though i never went to grad school with them (florida university), and, thechnically, im still in grad school, i felt a kinship. likely it was the beer...an APA, i thought youd never ask.

The Pub 5/6

flying solo currently. they had casked beer (not co2 fed, you ignorant chumps) served good and proper at 54 degrees. reminded me of england...great beer, prices through the roof. ugly serving staff and lots of cigarette smoke...just like london.

Champions 5/5

what do you do after reading assloads of student essays? any number of things, really, but count on at least one of them involving beer. the fellow to the right is heading off to kuwait in a few days to teach at the university. swell chap from canada...more or less. im drinking the bluegrass brewing company's (bbc) ipa.

Champions 5/5

meet one of my new chums, jill. quick with the wit, this one is. im savoring the flavor of a boddington's on tap...who says kentucky is only good for burbon and fried chicken?

Cool Hand Luke's 5/19

23oz anchor steam, ruminates as pa regaills us with a tale. out celebrating ma's birthday. plenty of food to go around...the real bonus, though: jen didnt get sick in the parking lot
(a bit of an inside joke, really)
